Two Mackay Property companies were wound up on 8 September owing £468,920, with HMRC owed £257,956. The Bell Street office now trades as Muvin.

The two companies behind the Sawbridgeworth estate agency Mackay Property have been wound up owing £468,920. The biggest creditor by a distance is HM Revenue and Customs, owed £257,956.

Both companies traded from 25 Bell Street. Both passed winding-up resolutions on 8 September 2026. The sworn statements of affairs were filed at Companies House on 15 and 18 September, and they are the source for every figure below.

The estate agency brand has not gone. The mackayproperty.co.uk web address now redirects to muvin.co.uk, which gives the same Bell Street address and the same phone number.

What the register records

Two separate companies were involved, each in creditors’ voluntary liquidation:

  • Mackay Property Agents Limited, company number 07150877, incorporated in February 2010, real estate agencies
  • Mackay Property Lettings Limited, company number 07235073, incorporated in April 2010, management of real estate

The agency company’s general meeting was held at 25 Bell Street at 2.00pm on 8 September. The lettings company’s was held at the same address an hour later. Both resolutions are published in The London Gazette. Alexander Kinninmonth and James Prior of FRP Advisory Trading Limited were appointed joint liquidators of both.

Each company’s registered office has since moved to the liquidators’ Bournemouth office, on 16 September and 17 September.

Who is owed what

The statements of affairs are dated 25 August 2026 and signed by the director, Adam Charles Mackay. Taken together, the two company creditor lists and the summaries of liabilities account for £468,920 of claims.

Creditor Agency company Lettings company
HM Revenue and Customs £237,704.84 £20,251.31
Funding Circle £135,000.00 none listed
National Westminster Bank £44,399.21 £7,064.51

Eon £2,446.56 none listed
Companies House £1,500.00 none listed
NFU Mutual none listed £90.79
The Pensions Regulator none listed £90.79

Four more entries are listed at £1.00 each: Eastside Developments Limited and Nest in the agency company, Nest and Siemens Financial Services in the lettings company. The forms do not say what those balances turn out to be.

Employees are owed a further £7,153.64 by the agency company and £3,842.26 by the lettings company, plus £1,138.45 of preferential claims in the lettings company. Individual employees are named on a separate schedule and are not identified here.

Bar chart of the claims against the two Mackay Property companies: HMRC £257,956, Funding Circle £135,000, NatWest £51,464, trade and utilities £12,365, employees and preferential claims £12,134
Claims recorded in the two statements of affairs, both dated 25 August 2026.

Nothing is expected to come back

The forms put the same answer against every asset in both companies: uncertain.

The agency company lists computer equipment with a book value of £9,305, debtors of £186,207 and a director’s loan account of £180,852. The lettings company lists £2,022 of computer equipment, £11,186 of debtors and a director’s loan account of £209,163.

Against the line “estimated total assets available for preferential creditors”, both forms read NIL.

That is what produces the shortfall. The agency company records an estimated total deficiency of £436,539.46 and the lettings company £32,580.11, a combined £469,119.57 once £200 of issued share capital is counted.

The same office, a different company

Typing the old Mackay Property web address into a browser now lands on Muvin. The site lists:

  • the address “25 BELL STREET SAWBRIDGEWORTH HERTFORDSHIRE CM21 9AR”
  • the phone number 01279 600567
  • Adam Mackay and Jamie Fisher as “Co-Founder”
  • a footer reading “Muvin T/A: eXp World UK Limited is a registered company at C/O Corporation Service Company (UK) Limited, 114 St. Martin’s Lane, London, WC2N 4BE. The registered company number is 12016573.”

eXp World UK Limited is a separate and active company, incorporated on 24 May 2019 and registered in Bristol. It is not in liquidation and it is not one of the two companies wound up this month. Its published accounts are up to date.

Homes listed on the Muvin site on 23 September included properties in Sawbridgeworth, Harlow, Little Canfield and Braintree.

What it means for you

  • If the companies owe you money, the liquidators are the only route. FRP Advisory gives cp.southampton@frpadvisory.com and 01202 048040 as the contact in its Gazette notice. A creditor who is not on the statement of affairs can still submit a claim.
  • If you rented through the lettings company, your deposit sits with a deposit protection scheme, not with the agent. Deposits taken on an assured shorthold tenancy must be held in a government-approved scheme, and GOV.UK lists the three schemes and how to find out which one holds yours.
  • If you are a landlord owed rent or holding money on account, put the claim to the liquidators in writing and keep the paperwork. The lettings company’s own form records £11,186 of debtors and nothing certain to realise.
  • A creditors’ voluntary liquidation is started by the company itself, not by a court. The figures above are the director’s own estimates, sworn on 25 August, and the liquidators may arrive at different ones.
